Measuring A Coat

Chest & Waist

To measure the chest and waist of your coat:

1) Close the buttons 

2) Lay out the coat completely flat on an even surface so there is no material gathering. Spread the arms out as illustrated.

3) The chest measurement is taken between the widest point under each armpit. Gently pull the fabric flat before measuring

4) The waist measurement is taken across the middle button (on a 3 button coat), from side to side. Again, gently pull fabric flat before measuring.

Chest & Waist

To measure the chest and waist of your coat:

1) Close all the buttons or the zip.

2) Lay out the coat completely flat on an even surface so there is no material gathering. Spread the arms out as illustrated.

3) The chest measurement is taken between the widest point under each armpit. Gently pull the fabric flat before measuring.

4) The waist measurement is taken across the middle button (on a 3 button coat), from side to side. Again, gently pull fabric flat before measuring.

Shoulder width, Sleeves, Length

1) Close all the buttons or the zip 

2) Lay out the coat completely flat on an even surface so there is no material gathering

3) The shoulder width measurement is taken between the two points where the shoulder seam meets the arm

4) The sleeve length is measured from the top of the arm at the shoulder seam to the cuff

5) Coat length is measured from the bottom of the collar to the hem along the centre seam.

Shoulder width, Sleeves, Length

1) Close all the buttons or the zip 

2) Lay out the coat completely flat on an even surface so there is no material gathering

3) The shoulder width measurement is taken between the two points where the shoulder seam meets the arm

4) The sleeve length is measured from the top of the arm at the shoulder seam to the cuff

5) Coat length is measured from the bottom of the collar to the hem along the centre seam.

Raglan sleeve

A raglan sleeve has no seam between the shoulder and the arm. The material extends all the way up to the collar in one piece. To measure the sleeve length on this type of coat:

1) Close the coat buttons 

2) Lay out the coat flat on an even surface so there is no material gathering

3) Lift the collar and spread the arm out to the side into a natural position as illustrated.

4) Measure from the end of the sleeve up the the point where the sleeve meets the collar seam

Raglan sleeve

A raglan sleeve has no seam between the shoulder and the arm. The material extends all the way up to the collar in one piece. To measure the sleeve length on this type of coat:

1) Close the coat buttons 

2) Lay out the coat flat on an even surface so there is no material gathering

3) Lift the collar and spread the arm out to the side into a natural position as illustrated.

4) Measure from the end of the sleeve up the the point where the sleeve meets the collar seam.
